With the Candlestick

“With the Candlestick is a nod to our name and my favorite movie, Clue. Carrying a similar degree of campy disregard for subtlety, With the Candlestick is boldly dark, smoky, and just sweet enough.

While working on Candlestick, I was thinking a lot about how taking communion feels to a child. How that eerie overwhelm is heightened by language about "drinking the blood and eating the body". By isolating and amplifying these religious traditions out of context, we get a distorted sensory portrait that feels closer to what a child would see or what a film would show.

This scent opens up with a "blood of Christ" accord, which combines the scent of fermented cherries with metallic textures to create a nightmarish impression of communion wine. A key component of this accord is Rose Oxide, an organic compound found in roses. In isolation, this material is stripped of the complexity of a rose, leaving us with this metallic, vaguely floral, bloody aroma.”
